Abortion & Reproductive Freedom
I don't think anyone hopes for more abortions. The better question is how we can create a society where fewer women feel that abortion is their only realistic option.
That means addressing the challenges that often drive difficult decisions: affordable childcare, access to healthcare, economic opportunity, family support systems, and the high cost of raising a child.
If we want to reduce abortions, we should invest in people, families, and communities.
My Position
At the same time, I recognize that abortion remains one of the most difficult and deeply personal issues in public life.
In areas where Americans and Wisconsinites have not reached a broad social consensus, I generally believe we should lean toward individual liberty rather than government mandates.
A Practical Approach
Reasonable people can disagree in good faith about abortion.
My goal is not to divide people into opposing camps. My goal is to reduce the circumstances that lead to crisis pregnancies while respecting individual freedom and human dignity.
