This Week's Newsletter

This week, Christian took in the Chamber's workforce development symposium, where the takeaway was that housing, schools, childcare, and good jobs all belong in the same conversation, and wrapped up a stretch of soccer season with three games and a round of thank you post cards. The Sheboygan Press ran both candidates' priorities side by side, and we've added a plain language guide to the three statewide referendum questions on your November ballot. Looking ahead: the LNRP Barn Dance, an Educators' Town Hall at Jake's Cafe, and the Day of Caring. Plus, Thursday is Christian's birthday, and there's a simple way to mark it. Read on for all the details and how to get involved.

Week in Review

Wednesday brought the Sheboygan County Chamber's workforce development symposium, and Christian's takeaway was that workforce challenges aren't just about qualifications. If we want employers to grow, we need communities where people can afford to live, raise a family, and put down roots. Housing, schools, childcare, and good jobs are all part of the same conversation, and there was plenty to think about.

Christian coached three games and managed to send a round of thank you postcards, capped off with a party alongside Theater for Young Audiences.

Civic Spotlight: Know Before You Vote

The Sheboygan Press published a side by side questionnaire with both candidates in the race answering the same set of questions on priorities, the biggest issue facing the district, and how they'd work across the aisle. Rather than tell you what to think of it, we'd rather you read it yourself.

Also worth knowing: this November's ballot includes three statewide constitutional referendum questions, covering the governor's partial veto authority, gathering in places of worship during a state of emergency, and government treatment of individuals by race, sex, or ethnicity. We've put together a plain language explainer for each on our website, no spin, just what each question does and what a yes or no vote means.

Join Us: This Week and Next

A busy stretch coming up. Thursday, September 24, Christian's spending the morning with United Way's Day of Caring, and that same day, Fallooza takes over Plymouth, a festival raising awareness around mental health and addiction recovery, causes Christian cares about. He'll be there as his schedule allows, if not, expect a familiar face from the team standing in for him.

Saturday, September 26, it's the LNRP Barn Dance at the Saxon Homestead Farm in Cleveland, an evening of local food, live music, and dancing that raises money for conservation work across the Lakeshore region. Christian plans to be there. Tickets are sold through LNRP directly.

Tuesday, September 29, Christian's holding a town hall for educators at Jake's Cafe, a direct conversation with teachers and school staff about what they're seeing in the classroom. If you work in education, or know someone who does, this is worth the evening. The following night, he'll also be at the Legislative Forum for Sheboygan County Public Education at the SFHS auditorium, for anyone who wants a second look at the same set of issues from a different room.

Get Involved: Sign Bloom This Week

Keep an eye on your neighborhood. The team's delivering a fresh wave of yard signs on Wednesday, September 23, and they'll start going up across the district on Thursday, a date that happens to mean something extra to Christian this year. More on that below.

If your yard is on a busy road, a corner lot, or anywhere with steady traffic, there's still time to get one.

More Ways to Get Involved

United Way's Day of Caring is Thursday, September 24, matching volunteers with service projects across the community. This one isn't a campaign ask, it's us asking you to give United Way a hand directly. Christian's signed up for a morning shift and would love to see some familiar faces there.

Still building out two volunteer teams, plus one ask for anyone with the right yard: postcard writing, an ongoing phone bank, and hosting a sign on a busy corner or well traveled road.

A Birthday Ask

Thursday is Christian's birthday, and this year he's spending part of it watching new yard signs go up across the district, which is about as on brand a way to celebrate as we could ask for.

More people are meeting Christian for the first time every week, at fairs, at doors, through this newsletter. The more of the district that hears his actual story rather than a guess about what "Independent" means, the stronger this campaign gets. If you're able, consider marking the day with a contribution toward getting his story in front of more voters before November.

Sports Corner

The results are in (not a scientific study, but fun anyway): 43% of you said you're mostly there for the kids, another 43% watch from home, and 14% are out there coaching or volunteering. Nobody copped to being strictly a player or a stadium regular, at least not yet. Thanks to everyone who answered, we'll be back with more sports questions next week.

Thank you again for being part of this effort.

Every doorstep, every event, every conversation helps us understand this district a little better.
