LGBTQ+ Issues / Transgender Sports

I support equal rights for all Americans and believe people should be treated with dignity, respect, and fairness under the law.

I support marriage equality and do not believe government should discriminate against people because of who they are.

Treat One Another as Neighbors

Too often, discussions about LGBTQ+ issues become opportunities for political parties to divide people rather than solve real problems. I would prefer that we return to treating one another as neighbors and fellow human beings, even when we disagree.

Transgender Youth Sports

Questions involving transgender participation in youth sports receive a great deal of political attention, but in practice they affect a very small number of participants. I do not believe this is the type of issue that demands broad legislative intervention from Madison.

Youth sports are generally best governed by coaches, league administrators, parents, and local organizations that understand the circumstances of the athletes involved.

Dignity & Safety

When questions do arise, decisions should begin with respect for the dignity of every participant while keeping the safety of all participants as the top priority.
