Communities
District 9 is not one community
District 9 stretches across nearly all of Sheboygan County, southern and eastern Manitowoc County, and the northeast corner of Fond du Lac County.
It includes cities, villages, and townships, each with its own character and history.
Some communities are built around Lake Michigan. Others are surrounded by farmland and open country. Some are larger cities with established neighborhoods and commercial centers. Others are smaller communities where local connections are part of everyday life.
Together, they make up District 9.
Cities
District 9 includes the cities of Sheboygan, Manitowoc, and Two Rivers, as well as communities including Sheboygan Falls, Plymouth, and Kiel.
These communities are home to manufacturers, small businesses, families, schools, parks, downtowns, neighborhoods, and the institutions that make a community work.
Villages and smaller communities
The district also includes villages such as Kohler, Elkhart Lake, Howards Grove, Cleveland, Cascade, Oostburg, Waldo, Glenbeulah, and St. Cloud, among others.
These communities may be smaller in population, but they are no less important to the district's identity.
Local government, schools, businesses, civic organizations, volunteers, and neighbors all play a role in keeping these communities strong.
Towns and rural communities
A substantial part of District 9 is rural.
Townships and rural areas across Sheboygan, Manitowoc, and Fond du Lac counties are home to family farms, small businesses, manufacturers, and families who have built their lives in these communities over generations.
Rural communities also bring particular concerns to the district, including agriculture, infrastructure, transportation, emergency services, and the changing needs of small communities.
Different places, shared interests
The people of District 9 do not all live the same way, and they do not all see every issue the same way.
That is a strength, not a problem.
Representation means listening to people where they live and understanding what matters to them. It means recognizing that a decision made in Madison can affect a farm, a factory, a small business, or a family differently depending on where they live.
